Women's participation essential for nation building: First Lady

First Lady and Chief Guide Sajidha Mohamed highlighted the critical role of women in nation-building, noting that it is impossible to build a nation without the full participation of women.

Speaking at the 2024 Annual General Meeting of the Maldives Girl Guides Association, held at the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), First Lady Sajidha said that societal reform cannot succeed without recognizing and empowering the true role of women.

She urged Maldivian women to remain religiously conscious, uphold the national spirit, and remain receptive to contemporary knowledge and skills, calling on them to take on leadership roles within the society.

The First Lady also highlighted the significance of the Girl Guide movement, describing it as an institution that fosters initiative, accountability, and a deep sense of human responsibility. She noted that the movement promotes values that go beyond monetary worth, championing human dignity and encouraging pride in fulfilling duties with honesty and dedication.

First Lady Sajidha said that the Girl Guide movement has long played an important part in enriching Maldivian culture and traditions, nurturing positive social values and strengthening community ties.

At the event, the First Lady officially launched the Maldives Girl Guides Association’s new website and presented certificates and badges to individuals who have served the Association for 20 to 25 years.

She also conferred certificates, badges, and scarves awarded by the outgoing Chief Commissioner and Deputy Chief Commissioner, marking the end of their terms.

The ceremony concluded with the First Lady presenting a certificate to Aishath Nashida, who has assumed the position of Chief Commissioner.
