Yumnu taken to Malaysia for treatment

The funds provided by the government were only sufficient to cover half the expenses of the treatment, family said. With a subsequent fund raising appeal on social media, the family received the targeted amount through donations from members of the public.

Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed, who sustained serious injuries from a fall from a building, has been flown to Malaysia last night for further treatment.

Yumnu was discovered fallen on to the roof of a warehouse from what is believed to be the 9th floor of adjacent H. Fentoniya on April 18.

She was receiving treatment for her injuries in the Intensive Care Unit at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

With doctors finally permitting her to be flown, the family decided on taking her to Malaysia for further treatment. This was, in part, due to some members of her family living in the country.

The government stated yesterday that it would cover all the costs involved in Yumnu's treatment. The government arranged for USD 25,000 (MVR 385,500) to be issued through NSPA. This amount was deposited last night, which includes coverage for 12 tickets.

However, the funds provided by the government were only sufficient to cover half the expenses of the treatment, family said. With a subsequent fund raising appeal on social media, the family received the targeted amount through donations from members of the public.

The family said that Yumnu's first surgery alone would cost MVR 878,940. In addition to this, there will be costs involved in admission, they said.

Under the fund raising activities on social media, over MVR 700,000 was received through a TikTok live alone.
