All work on Meemu atoll Muli Airport has been completed, with a successful test flight landing on Friday.
A Maldivian Airlines Dash-8 aircraft touched down at the newly constructed airport, ahead of its official opening scheduled for next week during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the atoll.
The contract to complete Muli Airport was awarded to MTCC in 2021 for MVR 212 million, with an initial one-year deadline. However, budget constraints caused delays, pushing back the project’s completion. Regional Airports had earlier targeted July last year to finish the work, but the timeline was not met.
The government has recently transferred the operation of Muli Airport to Regional Airports Company.
