Police Commissioner Ali Shujau has decided to resign from his post.
However, Shajau has made no official statement regarding his decision.
Shujau’s decision comes amid mounting public pressure and calls for his resignation over the investigation into the fall of 21 year old Hawwa Yumnu Rasheed from the ninth floor of a building in Male' during the early hours of April 18.
Shujau, who previously served as an Assistant Commissioner, was appointed as Commissioner of Police on December 25, 2023.
Shujau, 52, joined the police force in 2006 after previously serving as the assistant principal of Majeediyya School. Over his career in policing, he has held key positions, including Commander of the Malé Area, Head of the Police Academy, and Head of the Family and Child Protection Department (FCPD). He also led rehabilitation programs aimed at preventing minors from joining gangs.
Before being appointed as Commissioner of Police on December 25, 2023, Shujau served as an Assistant Commissioner.
Following his resignation, Ismail Naveen and Farhad Fikree are in the posts of Assistant Commissioners
