Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Ameen has denied allegations circulating on social media linking him to the case of a 21 year old woman who fell from the ninth floor of a building in Male'.
The incident occurred early Friday morning in Henveiru, where the woman was found seriously injured on the roof of a warehouse adjacent to a residential building.
She is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at IGMH, although no official details about her injuries have been disclosed.
Following the incident, social media posts alleged that a party had taken place at a residence linked to Minister Ameen and that he had interfered in the investigation, which reportedly involved two of his nephews.
In a post on social media platform X, Minister Ameen last night denied the allegations, stating that while a gathering did occur in the building where he resides, he had no knowledge of it at the time and it did not take place within his own apartment.
"This [incident] did not take place within the confines of my home or apartment. I for one had no knowledge or idea of this gathering, and cannot control what goes on outside my home or apartment," he said.
He added that the building is co-owned by him and two of his siblings and that his two nephews who were subsequently questioned in connection with the case had attended the gathering. According to Ameen, he only became aware of the situation later Friday evening.
Addressing allegations of interference, the Minister said that he holds no authority over law enforcement or investigative bodies.
"I do not hold any mandate in Government pertaining to law enforcement or investigation," he said.
“I have not contacted anyone within law enforcement, the Government, or any other party to obtain information or influence the investigation in any way," Ameen said.
He said that the claims on social media are "completely baseless and false."
Despite his statements, calls for accountability have continued to grow. Protesters gathered last night near the Henveiru Police Station, demanding justice for the victim and urging authorities to ensure a fair and transparent investigation.
