Male' area recorded its highest electricity consumption of the year last Thursday, said STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy.
Fahmy, in a post on social media platform X, said electricity usage hit 114 megawatts at 3 pm that day; the highest so far in 2025. By 1 pm today, the load stood at 111 megawatts.
He urged the public to be mindful of their electricity consumption as rising temperatures push demand higher.
“It is important that we all do what we can to reduce electricity use, both for our own benefit and for society,” he said.
Fahmy advised households to use electricity wisely, especially when running air conditioners, recommending that they be kept below 25°C only when necessary.
Maldives Meteorological Service data shows temperatures currently range from 35 degree Celsius to 39 degree Celsius, peaking around 2 pm. The hottest day last year saw the mercury hit 48°C.
Maldives typically observes its hottest weather between March and August.
