Man seriously injured in shark attack in Kulhudhuffushi

A 30 year old man was seriously injured in a shark attack while fishing in the waters off Haa Dhaalu atoll Kulhudhuffushi early this morning.

According to a person speaking from the island, the man was in the sea near the island’s waste disposal area with a group of others when the shark attacked him.

The shark bit into the man’s right shoulder, causing significant damage to the area below the shoulder socket.

Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital said that the patient is now in stable condition.

“The part of the shoulder socket that had popped out has been repositioned, and the bleeding has stopped,” the hospital said.

While shark attacks in Maldivian waters are rare, they do occur from time to time. In a tragic incident last year, a young man undergoing MNDF training died following a shark attack.
