Airworks Aviation Academy in the Philippines has said that it will cover all medical expenses of Maldivian student pilot Abdul Maaniu, who was injured after being struck by an aircraft propeller during a training session.

Maaniu, from Haa Dhaalu atoll Hanimaadhoo, suffered injuries to his face, stomach, and shoulder, and lost part of a finger in the accident. Multiple major surgeries have been performed, and his condition is now reported to be stable, according to a family member.

In a statement issued yesterday, Airworks Aviation Academy confirmed that it is arranging all necessary medical care and providing support to both Maaniu and his family. The academy said it is committed to ensuring the student’s full recovery and return to normal life.

"The safety and security of our students and instructors is our top priority," the academy stated.

"We are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation and are working to ensure that such an incident does not happen again."

All flight operations at the academy were suspended for three days following the incident to assist with the investigation. The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, along with local police, is currently investigating the cause of the accident.

The investigation report is also expected to be released soon.

While it has been said that Maaniu may have exited the aircraft feeling dizzy, his father said he had passed all medical evaluations with good results prior to the incident.

Family members are currently in the Philippines to support him during recovery.
