Crocodile spotted in Kaafu atoll, MNDF works to catch it

A crocodile was spotted earlier today near the VARU by Atmosphere resort in Kaafu atoll.

Videos circulating on social media show the crocodile on the sea wall outside the resort's water villas.

MNDF said that officers are now working on catching the crocodile.

A 10 foot crocodile was caught in Shaviyani atoll in February last year as well.

Although saltwater crocodiles are not usually found in Maldives seas, there have been sightings at times. In such instances, MNDF catches the crocodiles and releases them back into the water after considering tides, at a distance from which it would not be possible to return to Maldives waters, they have said.
