The investigative committee, which looked into the allegations raised against the currently suspended Supreme Court Justices, Dr. Azmiralda Zahir and Mahaz Ali Zahir, has concluded its probe and submitted its findings to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
The two judges are being investigated for allegedly calling and pressuring Criminal Court judges to release Azmiralda's husband after he was arrested, and another case where the pair are said to have been present when High Court Assistant Registrar, Hussain Mohamed Haneef, was summoned to the Supreme Court and berated by former Supreme Court Justice Husnu Suood.
In both cases, the two judges were summoned to the JSC, where their statements were taken. Following investigations, the committee submitted their findings to the commission yesterday.
However, it is unclear what the committee's decision is.
The next phase of the case would allow the two judges to respond to the findings, after which the commission would issue its final verdict.
Both judges have been suspended since February. At the time, it was claimed that the ACC had an active investigation against both of them, as well as Husnu Suood, who later resigned. Despite these claims, the ACC has still not revealed what the investigation was about.
Their suspension was announced just minutes before the Supreme Court was about to convene for a hearing in a petition challenging the state sponsored constitutional amendment on anti-defection.
