The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested the Prosecutor General's Office to charge two senior officials of the Islamic University of Maldives (IUM) for hiring an unqualified employee.

ACC said last night that the university had advertised a vacancy for the position of a system administrator on November 5, 2017, and that the individual hired for the job did not meet the education and experience requirements.

Because of this, the ACC made a request on Tuesday to formally charge the then Human Resources Director of the university, Ibrahim Sameer, and the institution's former Vice Chancellor Ali Rasheed under Article 513 (a) of the Penal Code for misuse of confidential information obtained as a public servant for unfair advantage, and Article 513 (b) for abuse of official capacity and using that capacity to provide undue advantage.

ACC said the person who was hired as IUM's system administrator did not submit any documents regarding their education or experience.

"The R2 sheet prepared regarding the advertisement had allocated points in violation of the selection and appointment criteria and regulations of the Islamic University of Maldives. And the investigation found that the individual was given more points for the interview to increase their overall marks by misusing power," ACC said.
