Police on Sunday filed at the Prosecutor General’s Office to indict five suspects in the murder of a local man in Haa Alif atoll Ihavandhoo island last month.
Police confirmed that the investigation has been completed and that the case has been forwarded to the PG Office to press charges against five expatriate workers that were arrested in connection to the murder.
Ismail Umar, 54, was found murdered with multiple wounds on June 16 inside Ihavandhoo’s ice plant where he had worked as a mechanic and the in-charge. Police arrested the main suspect in the case, a Bangladeshi national named Sumon Miah who had worked at the ice plant, soon after Ismail Umar was found.
Miah has confessed to the crime, according to Police. The rest of the suspects arrested are alleged to be Miah’s accomplices.
