A ministry official speaking with Mihaaru News said that finishing work is currently underway at the ministry.
"Preparations are underway to open [the facility] on November 2," the official said.
Located in a 5,000 square foot area of Hulhumale' Farukolhufushi, the temporary cat facility has been handed over to the Male' City Council by the Housing Development Corporation.
Construction of the facility began in March of this year and has now been completed. The council announced this weeek that it requires one veterinarian and two veterinary nurses to staff the facility.
The salary for the veterinarian is set at MVR 35,000, while veterinary nurses will receive a salary of MVR 8,130.
Service allowance of MVR 100 per day worked and overtime pay at 35 percent of the salary will also be provided.
The Ministry said that the temporary cat facility is being constructed to offer shelter and care for cats, protecting them from injuries and various diseases and provide a safe and clean environment for the cats.
The facility will be equipped with a quarantine area, a clinic, and a laboratory. Additionally, there will be a pharmacy stocked with medication for cats, as well as an area where the cats can exercise and play.
