President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has met with the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres during his ongoing trip to New York to participate in the United Nations General Assembly.

At the meeting, the President reiterated that the Maldives' will play a more active role in the UN system, especially when it comes to major issues faces by Small Island Developing States.

In addition to this, the President also shared with the Secretary General an outline of the economic challenges presently faced by the Maldives, sharing the fiscal reform agenda now being adopted by the government.

The Secretary General commended the Maldives for its climate adaptation efforts and assured that complete support will be provided in overcoming the challenge of climate change, amongst other issues.

The meeting was held yesterday on the sidelines of the 79th UNGA at UN Headquarters in New York.
