Ruling coalition partner Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) declared Monday that they are not backing down from the motion of no confidence filed against Parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh by the joint opposition, and that MDA will take all necessary steps to fail the motion.
Deputy leader of MDA and lawmaker of Ken'dhikulhudhoo constituency Ali Mauroof told Mihaaru that the party will do everything to keep Speaker Maseeh in his position.
He added that MDA backs the comments of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) regarding the no confidence motion, adding that MDA has remained silent on the matter so far as their spokesperson is currently abroad at the moment.
As he reiterated that MDA is against the no confidence motion, he declared that there is no reasonable cause to remove Maseeh from position as he has sufficient potential as the parliament speaker.
Mauroof also assured that MDA will remain with PPM till 2018 when the next Presidential Elections take place.
