Former brigadier general and lawmaker of Hithadhoo South constituency, Ibrahim Didi, has been charged with terrorism once again over unlawfully arresting the former chief judge of the Criminal Court, Abdulla Mohamed.

He was previously charged in the same case, for the arrest and subsequent detention of a sitting judge during the presidency of Mohamed Nasheed in 2015, before they were withdrawn. The new charges were sent to the Criminal Court on May 25.

MP Ibrahim Didi was the Male Area Commander at that time. He later retired and was elected to the parliament in main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s ticket.

If proven guilty, he would receive a sentence of 10 to 15 years or be exiled for the same period which would also result in the loss of his seat at parliament.

Former Chief of Defence Force Moosa Ali Jaleel and the operation’s commander Colonel Ahmed Ziyad were also charged in the same case but were found innocent.
