President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom called on the people to be considerate of the needy and provide as much aid as possible on the day of Eid al-Fitr, which celebrates the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
In his address late Saturday to mark Eid which falls Saturday evening through Sunday until sundown in the Maldives, President Yameen declared that Eid is the day of thankfulness, joy and compassion.
“Similarly, Eid is in particularly the day to remember those amongst us who are in need and to help them to the best of capability. It’s the day to strengthen familial relations, visit one another, greet friends, make stronger Islamic unity and convey well wishes to each other,” he said.
The president conveyed Eid greetings to the people of the Maldives in his address, as well as to the leaders of Muslim-majority countries, residents, international Islamic associations and their leaders and members.
