Ibrahim Athif Shakoor, economic expert and Former Managing Director of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Ltd (MIFCO), has applied for the position of CEO at MIFCO, declaring that there are locals capable of managing the company.
Ibrahim Athif Shakoor, economic expert and Former Managing Director of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Ltd (MIFCO), has applied for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at MIFCO.
In an announcement, Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) declared that MIFCO is seeking persons to fill the role of CEO, with a monthly remuneration of nearly MVR 200,000 offered for the position. After accepting both foreign and local applications, the window expired this afternoon at 1400 hrs.
The number of candidates who had applied for the position of CEO at MIFCO, which continues to be operated on a loss, remains unclear. However, Ali Ahmed, who had served as the Managing Director of Felivaru Fisheries Complex, a processing facility of MIFCO and was also employed as the Head of Food Safety at Felivaru Canning Factory, alongside Athif also applied for the position.
Athif, who was also employed as Managing Director at MIFCO had served the company as Deputy CEO as well for a long time. He was also Head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) at Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
Speaking to local media, Mihaaru News, Athif explained that he applied for the position in order to prevent the chance for people to say that a foreigner was appointed as CEO of MIFCO due to a lack of qualified local applicants, declaring that there are qualified Maldivians, capable of managing MIFCO.
Athif has also served as a consultant for foreign and local companies and is currently engaged in researching the country's economy and reporting on it in local newspapers and foreign websites.
According to PCB's announcement, applicants seeking the CEO position at MIFCO must have a Masters or Bachelors Degree in Business Management and Administration or a related field with over 8 years of experience in the relevant field or 4 years of experience managing a company of international standards.
The candidate selected after reviewing experiences and qualifications of applicants will receive a stipend between USD 9,500 (MVR 146,000) and USD 12,000 (MVR 185,000), said PCB.
