Parliament has today appointed Baarashu MP Ibrahim Shujau to be the legislative's representative in the Clemency Board.
Shujau was nominated for the position by the ruling People's National Congress (PNC), which holds a super-majority in Parliament.
He was appointed through the unanimously by the 88 members who participated in the vote.
Clemency Board consists of 11 members. Besides the Member of Parliament, the board also has representatives from the legal sector, educational sector, social sector, health sector, a religious scholar, a civil society representative, a Parole Board member, a police representative, and a representative from the judicial sector.
The Parliamentary representative's seat became vacant following the end of the 19th People's Majlis' term. At the time, the post was filled by Ihavandhoo MP Mohamed Shifau.
