A landing craft of State Trading Organisation (STO) carrying staple food from capital Male to the island of Eydhafushi in Baa atoll ran aground a reef in the early hours of Monday.

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) stated Monday morning that the landing craft, which departed from Male around 2:30 a.m. on May 29 with six people on board, had run aground the reef to the south of Huvafen Fushi resort in Kaafu atoll. MNDF confirmed that no one was hurt during the accident and that all 2,000 sacks of staple food on board are undamaged.

STO is currently working to deploy a tug boat to float the landing craft.

Meanwhile, Maldives Meteorological Centre (MET) has issued a nationwide warning of rough seas, strong winds and heavy showers across the archipelago, urging travellers to take precautions in the rough weather.
