Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed has declared that development can be brought to the country at an expedited pace with People's National Congress (PNC) acquiring super majority of the 20th parliamentary term slated to be inaugurated next month.

The interim results released by the Elections Commission (EC) reveals that the ruling party, PNC has secured 66 out of the 93 parliamentary seats of the new term. Including government affiliated candidates who have also succeeded the election, the total number of seats acquired by the government stands at 74.

This a notable historical achievement gained by PNC.

Addressing this major success, Saeed stated that significant assistance to proceed the important developmental projects included in the government's manifesto will be received through the parliament with this result and further assured that the assistance required to conclude these projects has also been facilitated. He had asserted that the biggest precedence will be extended towards realizing the manifesto.

"With God's Will, the result of this will be achieving a very quick speed of developmental pace. And giving many benefits to the nation with this and the people proceeding in a new era of development." said Saeed.

He said that with the indisputable majority acquired by the government, essential development changes will be enforced through the parliament as well.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had also implored the people to confer majority of the parliament to the government in order to protect the independence, economy and self-sufficiency of the country during campaign speeches.

While President Muizzu and PNC had secured the super majority of the upcoming 20th parliamentary term, opposition MDP had only accumulated 12 seats. Furthermore, no candidates endorsed by the former President Mohamed Nasheed and former President Abdulla Yameen were elected in the parliamentary polls held yesterday.
