Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated that the fountain at the Republic Square was repaired as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
The fountain, known as 'Jumhoori Favvaara', was reopened to the public after repairs by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Monday night after it had been in a state of disrepair for several years.
It had remained neglected through out the past administration and needed major renovative work before it could be reused again.
MTCC stated that it is an honour to have received the opportunity to repair the fountain. MTCC spent about a month to repair the fountain for Eid under the directive of President Dr Muizzu.
The fountain was first opened in 2015 on the occasion of 'Minivan 50' celebrating 50 years of independence. President Dr Muizzu was Housing Minister at the time and played a lead role in the design and implementation of the project. The work was conducted even then by MTCC.
