Stelco has stated that an individual attempting to steal from one of their transformers have died.
He died through being electrocuted while attempting to steal from a Stelco transformer located in Hulhumale' Phase 2.
Stelco quoted Hulhumale' Hospital as pronouncing him dead on arrival after he was transferred there in hopes of treatment.
Stelco Managing Director Hussain Fahmy posted about the unfortunate incident on social media X early this morning.
No further details about the incident have been revealed so far.
Last Friday, Fahmy had announced that there was a rising issue of theft from Stelco substations, and the matter had been reported to authorities for further investigation.
He said that vandalism and theft had been the reasons behind power interruptions in Hulhumale' on both the early hours of Thursday and late on Friday night.
There has also been an instance where the power was cut off in Hassan Adam Mosque in Hulhumale' Phase 2 on Friday while Tarawih prayers were ongoing, also due to another instance of theft from a nearby transformer, Fahmy has said.
