Maldives signs with Chinese firm for environmental protection work

The Maldives has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chinese company China Tianying Inc. (CNTY) to collaborate on environmental protection efforts.

The agreement was signed by Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim on behalf of the Maldives, and by China Tianying Inc. President De Biao Cao on behalf of the company.

Minister Thoriq highlighted that CNTY's initiatives in areas such as climate change, water and sanitation, energy, environmental protection, and low-carbon urban development are instrumental in the Maldives' commitment to national development and environmental protection.

CNTY President De Biao Cao said the agreement between China and Maldives would further strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations.

Under the agreement, efforts will be focused on areas such as climate change, water and sanitation, energy, environmental protection, and low-carbon urban development.

In addition, CNTY plans to contribute to the country's socio-economic development leveraging its industrial and technological capabilities. According to the Ministry, China Tianying Inc. will focus on capacity building of stakeholders and environmental protection and sustainable development agencies for Phase 1 and 2 of the Waste to Energy Project in Thilafushi.
