The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced the establishment of a pool of religious scholars capable of delivering sermons in Bengali to conduct religious awareness programs for Bangladeshi Muslims residing in the Maldives.

As stated, a pool of scholars proficient in Bengali will be created for a period of one year to facilitate religious awareness programs and distribute religious sermons to Bangladeshi Muslims living in the country.

The announcement stated that MVR 500 would be provided for religious awareness sessions in Bengali, and MVR 1,000 for every religious sermon translated from the local language to Bengali.

Eligibility criteria for applicants include being Sunni Muslims, holding at least a first degree in religious studies from a university recognized by the Islamic Ministry, and having no prior convictions under the Religious Harmony Act.

Those meeting the eligibility requirements are requested to apply to the Islamic Ministry by 2 pm on Monday, as stated in the announcement.

In December last year, the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the official number of Bangladeshi nationals in the Maldives was 90,000. However, government officials estimate that this number will double due to the presence of undocumented immigrants, with the majority being Muslims.
