Vice President of Maldives, Hussain Mohamed Latheef, has stated that the delay in relocating to his official residence, Hilaaleege, is due to ongoing renovations and stated that relocation is expected to be within this month of Ramadan.
Speaking with “Mihaaru News”, the Vice President stated as such due to rumors that the Chief of Staff of Hilaaleege, Mohamed Waheed Hussain supervises all his activities and conduct
Chief of Staff of the Vice President’s official residence has familial connections to the President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
In response to an inquiry by Mihaaru News, he stated that he has not yet moved to the Official Residence of the Vice President, Hilaaleege. He further expressed concerns about the spreading of rumours that he had determined to move out of his official residence due to conflict with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The current Vice President asserted that the house requires repairs and maintained that such was the state of the house even amid the former Vice President, Faisal Naseem's term of residence in the house.
Highlighting that the slowing down of his motorcade near his present house of residence presents difficulties for the people as the road of the location is very narrow, he expressed his desire to move out to Hilaaleege within the shortest possible time to reduce these strains.
“The roof [of Hilaaleege] is entirely damaged. The bedchambers of the former VP also leak water. The kitchen is entirely decrepit as well. The whole place needed to undergo renovation a long time ago,” VP Hussein said.
He further remarked the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) had made substantial efforts to facilitate his relocation to Hilaaleege prior to the beginning of Ramandan. However, the move was impeded due to unconcluded work in the kitchen area.
“Can move out during first 10 [days] of Ramadan as well. A major portion of the repairs are completed at this time. Will relocate to Hilaaleege this Ramadan,” said the Vice President.
The Vice President had further asserted that no discord remains within the government and that the entire administration embraces a firm camaraderie.
He debunked the rumors that conflict has surfaced between the President Dr Muizzu, Chief of Staff of Hilaaleege Waheed, and himself, assuring that this was not so, while further remarking that the Chief of Staff of Hilaaleege is a kind hearted and good person.
“I tweeted, highly praising the President yesterday as well in relation to the fishermen dispute. I am proud of the work the President is doing for the people of the country,” he stated.
