Sheikhs Fazloon Mohamed and Adam Nishan have been reissued permits to hold religious sermons again.

Their licenses to hold sermons were suspended on allegations of joining an angry mob that barged into the premises of Maldives National Football Stadium in 2022 and violently disrupting an ongoing yoga and meditation session which was being held by the Indian Cultural Center in association with the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of the time.

An official of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs confirmed to Mihaaru News that the two Sheikhs have been reissued permits effective yesterday.

However, the trials in relation to the terrorism charges made against them in relation to the yoga disruption event have not reached conclusion yet.

In a facebook post, Nishan has extended thanks to Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed for reinstating his status as a certified preacher.

The two are included amongst the 21 arrested at the time in relation to the incident, as well as amongst the 18 against whom charges were pressed. After an extended period in detention, Criminal Court released them from remand in custody.
