President Dr Muizzu told residents of Hulhumeedhoo that construction of the Addu Bridge will be completed within his term in office, and the bridge will be then open to the public.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated today that the Hithadhoo-Hulhumeedhoo Bridge, contracted to be built by Egypt's The Arab Contractors, will be completed and opened for use within this term.
After the bridge agreement was signed earlier today, the President met Hulhumeedhoo residents in Seenu Atoll Education Centre. He assured them that although the agreement signed today concerns the bridge survey, it will soon be transformed into a contract and physical work will subsequently commence without delay.
"My estimate is that within three and a half to four years, God willing, work on the bridge will be completed and the residents of this city can o from Hithadhoo to Hulhumeedhoo and Hulhumeedhoo to Hithadhoo...the entire city will be connected," the President said.
The President stated that the bridge is not being built for the sake of honour. Rather, he said that for a nation to develop, it is vital to complete many things, including the development of roads and strengthening the transport system.
President Dr Muizzu claimed that he is observing the same occurrence in Male' after the bridge was built, and that the immense change the establishment of the bridge has brought to the community is evident for all to see. He said that, in light of this, he is certain of seeing such positive changes on completion of the Hithadhoo-Hulhumeedhoo Bridge as well.
The President asserted that this is the reason why his administration is giving such high priority to the bridge project.
Highlighting that this is the longest bridge to be built in the Maldives to date, the President opined that he did not believe a second such long bridge would be built in the country even in the future.
