Embassy of Maldives established in Turkey

A statement issued by the President's Office highlighted that the embassy has been established with a view towards further enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has established an Embassy of Maldives in Turkey on Tuesday.

The embassy will be located in Ankara, Turkey and will be under the administrative oversight of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A statement issued by the President's Office highlighted that the embassy has been established with a view towards further enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries and promoting political , economic and cultural cooperation.

The President specified 22 directives under the roles of the embassy.

The decision to open an embassy in Turkey was made by the cabinet on December 10, 2023.

Turkey is also the country that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu made his first official state visit to.

Bilateral relations between the countries were initially established on May 28, 1979.
