Island Aviation Service (IAS) has said that it will take legal action against the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) if it fails to pay MVR 5.6 million for its flights during last year's presidential election campaign.

Mihaaru News has learned that the tickets and charter flights taken by MDP through Island Aviation, which operates Maldivian Airlines, from September to October last year amounted to MVR 5.6 million.

A senior official from Island Aviation said that they were currently in the process of "collecting dues" owed by the party. The official said that notifications have been sent to the party on several occasions in the past to seek payments.

Island Aviation had come into an agreement with MDP at the time for the party to pay the amounts due 48 hours from the date of service.

The last deadline given by Island Aviation to MDP to pay their dues is February 18. The party was notified on Thursday that legal actions would be taken if the money was not paid before then.

Previously, Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) had faced similar issues for not making payments for its presidential campaign flights through Island Aviation, when the party was in power.
