Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr Ali Haidar has said that his office will be working to ensure the prompt issuance of flats to those deemed eligible from amongst the list of recipients published by the former administration under their 'Gedhoruveriya' housing scheme.

In a video shared on social media platform X, the Minister said that a request has been sent to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) asking for a detailed report of its findings into the investigation they conducted into the matter.

He said that no such report has been received as of yet.

"We are working to ensure that flats are handed over to eligible recipients at the earliest. But we can only proceed with this once we receive the detailed reports [from ACC]," the Minister said.

A statement released by the Housing Ministry confirmed that they have received the preliminary findings of the first phase of the ACC's investigation into the allocation of flats. They further added that they have held further deliberations with the commission where they have requested for details.

The Ministry confirmed that once they receive the details, they will seek legal advice and start issuance of flats accordingly.

The ACC's investigations revealed that 59.6 percent of the applications of those listed in the flat recipients register are, in fact, ineligible due to a variety of reasons including, but not limited to, wrongful allocation of points, submission of false information and submission of fraudulent documentation.
