Islamic Ministry has informed to temporarily halt the recitation of Qunoot-e-Nazilah that was recited in Maldivian mosques during prayer times to pray for the protection of Palestinians in Israel's war against them.

Qunoot-e-Nazilah is a dua (prayer) to be recited in the Fajr Salat (dawn prayers) when faced with peril and adversity to beseech to Allah for mercy and benevolence.

The first Qunoot prayer to pray for the safety of Palestinians against Israel's adversity was held on October 18.

Initially, the Qunoot-e-Nazilah was mandated to be recited during all five daily prayers. The repetition was lessened in December through the issuance of new guidelines.

The circular sent yesterday had notified mosques to temporarily cease the Qunoot-e-Nazila recitation effective from tonight's Maqrib Salat (sunset prayer).

The attack launched by Hamas under the name “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood” on Israel had killed a thousand individuals, and abducted some.

Israel has been committing ceaseless counter-attacks since, which has martyred over 27,000 Palestinians of which most victims are women, teenagers and children.

Countless Gazan houses are leveled to the ground under the Israeli strikes, leaving hundreds of thousand people in despair.
