Cancer accounts for 17 percent of all deaths in the Maldives, Health Protection Agency (HPA) has said, referring to the statistics of the World Health Organization (WHO).

In a statement issued on World Cancer Day, the disease is recognized as the second leading cause of death globally. Approximately 10 million people succumb to cancer each year, with 40 percent of these cases attributed to lifestyle and unhealthy habits, as highlighted in the statement.
