President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that funds generated by atoll shops situated in the Malé North Harbour area will be made accessible to the atolls.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the Mayor and Council of Malé City, the President noted that despite money being collected from atoll shops in Malé City, previous administrations failed to transfer it to the atolls.

He, however, assured that the government would send the money from atoll shops to the atolls.

During former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration, it was decided in 2022 that the rent from atoll shops would be collected and given to the councils. Earlier, 50 per cent of the rent from the atoll shop was being deposited with the councils.

The President emphasized transparency in handing over the money.
