MVR 44 million allocated to political parties, MVR 18 million for PPM/PNC

EC announced that political parties have been allocated MVR 44 million from the state budget this year. The ruling PPM/PNC coalition is set to receive a total of MVR 18 million, while the opposition party MDP is set to receive MVR 15 million

The Elections Commission announced today that the state budget will allocate MVR 44 million to political parties this year.

The Elections Commission (EC) has allocated MVR 44,099,905 to political parties that have reached a membership of 10,000 as of the approval date of this year's budget by the parliament.

The EC also announced the specifics of how the funds will be distributed among the parties.

The Progressive Party of the Maldives and People's National Congress (PPM/PNC) coalition has been allocated the largest amount of funds this year. PPM, with 36,223 members, will receive MVR 10.5 million, and the PNC, with 28,201 members, will receive MVR 8.1 million, totaling MVR 18 million.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is now the singular party receiving the largest sum of funds due to having the highest number of members. The party will receive MVR 15.1 million, and has 52,142 members.

Amount of funds to be received by political parties;

- MDP: MVR 15.1 million

- Adhaalath Party: MVR 2.5 million

- Jumhooree Party (JP): MVR 5.3 million

- PPM: MVR 10.5 million

- Maldives Deveopment Alliance (MDA): MVR 2.5 million

- PNC: MVR 8.1 million

EC has not yet announced the payment date for the allocated funds.

The Political Parties Act mandates that political parties receive an allocation ranging from 0.1 to 0.2 percent of the state budget each year.
