The Foreign Ministry has revealed that India has agreed to 'fast track' the removal of their military presence in the Maldives.

The statement was released following the conclusion of today's meeting of the High Level Committee, a group established through discussions between President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during their meeting in Dubai on the sidelines of COP summit.

The Foreign Ministry's statement reads that discussions were held regarding matters of concern to both countries, and prospective steps needed to be taken in order to further strengthen ties between Maldives and India.

The decision follows a request to India from President Dr Muizzu requesting the removal of its troops stationed in the Maldives by March 15.

The next meeting of the High Level Committee is to be scheduled at a later date at the convenience of both countries.

Ambassador at Large Ali Naseer Mohamed, Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef, Foreign Ministry's Secretary Hala Hameed and Maldives Ambassador to India Ibrahim Shaheeb represented the Maldives at today's High Level Committee meeting.

A special team from India arrived in Maldives on Saturday to attend today's meeting.
