The Maldives and the People's Republic of China have signed 20 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
The MoUs were signed by senior government officials of both countries at a ceremony held this evening as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's ongoing state visit to China. President Dr. Muizzu and Chinese President Xi Jinping were also present on the occasion.
The MoUs signed during President Dr. Muizzu's visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping include Belt and Road Cooperation and Blue Partnership, Carbon Reduction, and Blue Economic Cooperation MoUs.
The two countries also signed an MoU on cooperation in disaster reduction, green development, digital sector development, social housing, and airport development.
Several MoUs, including those related to media development, were signed between Maldives and China.
However, the details of the MoUs have not been disclosed by the two governments.
President Xi Jinping extended a warm welcome to President Dr. Muizz in China today. The reception was followed by official talks between the two countries. The Maldives and China signed 20 MoUs soon after. President Xi also hosted an official banquet in honor of President Dr. Muizzu and his delegation this evening.
President Dr. Muizzu arrived in China on Monday along with a high-level delegation from the Government of Maldives. They first visited Fujian province, where he inaugurated an investment forum organized by the Maldives. Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said that the forum, attended by over 300 participants, was the most successful ever held.
