The Maldives welcomed its first tourist of the year early this morning. The country aims to attract two million tourists in 2024.
The first tourist to visit the Maldives this year was Duncan Moore from the UK. This marks his first visit to the Maldives.
Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal and senior officials of the ministry warmly welcomed Duncan Moore at Velana Airport when he arrived in the Maldives this morning.
According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, the Maldives received over 1.8 million tourist arrivals last year.
Last year, the highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives came from Russia, with 200,000 tourists. India followed closely as the second-highest with 199,000 arrivals, and China secured the third-highest number of tourists with 183,000 arrivals.
Minister Faisal recently stated that the target set for this year is to attract two million tourists.
He added that discussions and planning are underway to collaborate with the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) for tourism promotion activities aimed at targeting new and existing markets to increase tourist arrivals to the Maldives.
"I believe MMPRC has a very capable Managing Director. Together with the entire team and the Ministry of Tourism, we are all working collaboratively to increase [the number of tourists] to over two million," Minister Faisal said.
