The Australian government has extended the deadline for the Maldives to apply for its Australia Awards scholarships till next Friday.

The scholarship applications were originally due April 30 but the government of Australia extended the deadline until 5:00 p.m. coming Friday following technical problems with the online application system of the scholarship last Saturday.

Students that receive the scholarships this year will commence studies in January 2018.

The Australia Awards this year offers scholarships only for Master’s Degree level, unlike previous years when it had also offered Bachelor’s Degree and PhD scholarships. The Awards focus mainly on four sectors with economy, environment, education and good governance.

The Awards’ official website notes that 50 percent of the available slots are allocated for female students. The government of Australia will cover all education expenses as well as return fares to Australia, medical insurance and other allowances given to scholarship winners.

Australia has so far granted scholarships to sixteen individuals of the Maldives.
