A man died in an accident that occurred in the island of Isdhoo in Laamu atoll late Saturday.
According to the island council, Mohamed Yoosuf, 27, had been riding a motorcycle along the causeway linking the island of Isdhoo and Kalaidhoo when the motorbike slipped on the road. Some residents stated that he had been driving at a moderate speed but the road was muddy due to an earlier rainstorm.
The accident occurred around 11:00 p.m. Saturday night. The island council reported that Yoosuf was found lying 20 feet away from his motorbike by people on the scene and that he had broken his neck in the fall.
A councillor declared that he was pronounced dead on arrival at the health centre. He had also received several other severe injuries.
