Member of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and lawmaker of Dhangethi constituency, Ilham Ahmed, warned the opposition that anyone who attempts to shatter the economy of the Maldives will be taken to court.

Speaking at the campaign rally of Mohamed Aseel, the PPM candidate for the upcoming Local Council Election of Galolhu North constituency, Ilham said that considering the past 50 years, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is the founder of development in the Maldives.

“If anyone tries to shatter the economy of the nation, he has to go home or face the court room,” said Ilham.

Noting that majority of the citizens today wants development, Ilham said that nobody can bring down the country in heated political turmoil and that the president will leave no stone unturned in order to bring peace to the nation.

Proclaiming that the capital Male alone is witnessing investments of billion of dollars, he noted that social shelter will be assured by 2019.

Despite being a PPM member currently, Ilham was elected to the parliament by Jumhoory Party’s ticket. Dhangethi has no relations with Ilham, who was solely supporting JP's leader Qasim Ibrahim at that time.

While Ilham slammed the opposition, trials are ongoing for the leader of JP Qasim Ibrahim and Deputy Leader Abdulla Riyaz. Moreover, Maldives Police Service has forwarded charges against Faris Maumoon, the lawmaker son of Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
