Former President Abdulla Yameen has announced the official name for his new party; People's National Front (PNF).

After leaving Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Yameen on Saturday evening, November 25 launched his new party's name and logo.

Activities and efforts of Yameen's new party is led by his advocate and former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed and former Minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamaal.

Yameen moved ahead with forming his new party due to the recent fallout between him and the PPM leadership.

While the official color of his new party is purple, it is unlikely that PNF would be permitted to use the color, as it also serves as the official color of the Elections Commission (EC).

Due to his criminal conviction and the ongoing 11-year prison sentence, Yameen lacks the legal authority to form a political party.

His conviction for money laundering and graft related to the Vaavu atoll Aarah lease is still in effect.

Meanwhile, Maleeh has confirmed they will be seeking permission from EC on Sunday, November 26, to form the People's National Front.

This is the second time Yameen is moving to form his own political party. He previously founded the People's Alliance (PA). However, after ousting his elder half-brother Maumoon Abdul Gayoom from his own party, Yameen assumed control of PPM.
