Members of Parliament (MPs) in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's cabinet have initiated their resignations from their current positions.
President Muizzu is set to administer the oath to the 22 cabinet members at a ceremony scheduled to take place at the President’s Office tonight.
Speculations suggest that among the MPs representing the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC), Maduvvaree MP Adam Shareef, Maavashu MP Mohamed Saeed, Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam, and Guraidhoo MP Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon will be appointed to the new president's cabinet this evening.
Meanwhile, Villimalé MP Ahmed Usham, representing the ruling coalition party's PNC, is anticipated to be appointed as the new Attorney General of the state and has already submitted his resignation letter to the Parliament Speaker. In addition to Usham, Adam Shareef has also notified the Speaker of his resignation from his position.
Additionally, Faresmaathoda MP Hussain Mohamed Latheef, who was sworn in as Vice President today, had previously resigned from his post as MP.
The PPM/PNC, currently the ruling party, will now be represented by only four MPs. However, it is speculated that one of them, Felidhoo MP Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, will be appointed as the Managing Director of Urbanco.
Despite the resignations of several MPs with the new government, there will be no by-elections held for these constituencies.
