Acting Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mannaan Yoosuf and Deputy Commissioner Ali Rasheed have decided to resign from the Maldives Police Services.
Police Media Official confirmed that the two will be retiring on next Saturday.
Mannaan was appointed as Acting Commissioner on Friday after former Police Commissioner Mohamed Hameed retired. He was appointed as Deputy Commissioner on November 19, 2018 by then President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. He has served in the police services for 29 years.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who was sworn in last Friday, has not appointed a Commissioner of Police yet.
As per the Police Act, a new commissioner must be appointed within 45 days of the post becoming vacant. The post will be appointed by the President after an individual is vetted by the Police Board and recommended by the Home Minister.
The post can be filled by officers ranking Assistant Commissioner or higher.
