Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) raids the Ombudspersons' Office of Transitional Justice over allegations of tampering with investigation findings.

An official from the commission had confirmed this to Mihaaru News.

The commission raided the office over the recent allegations of altering the findings of investigations along with some other allegations, which ACC had received earlier.

Ombudsperon Jihadha Anees, who recently resigned citing challenges to fulfilling her responsibilities without becoming part of misconduct in the office, alleged the abrupt recommencement of investigations against regulations on purposefully delayed cases previously with just two weeks left of the legal duration of office.

She alleged that the findings of previously completed cases were altered as well.

"... there are attempts to show presence of ombudsperson in official meetings for which they did not attend, while cases have been altered by excluding the ombudspersons originally attached to them, while information about these cases have not been reported to me while they have been making decisions on cases in contravention with the Transitional Justice Act," Jihadha alleged.

With the legal duration of the office expiring on coming Friday, November 17, it has attracted criticism over incompetency and failure to address and close cases under its mandate.

The Transitional Justice Act was implemented with the aim of exercising justice for the Maldivian public during the previous five governments.

The initial Act had specified the duration from 2012 to 2018, which was later amended by the parliament on November 29, 2020 to extend the period of 65 years.
