Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has released a statement on Thursday stating that there is no evidence to back allegations of financial misappropriation by FAM leaders of funds received from international federations. They stated that they will not remain silent when faced with personal attacks.

In the first statement released after Police entered, searched and seized items from FAM premises on Sunday, the association stated that no leaders, staff or members of FAM had been involved in wrongfully appropriating any funds.

FAM said the management of their administration will face the allegations against its leaders head on in the interests of national football.

"We will not step back in our efforts to prove to our members and the public that FAM has not conducted any actions or transactions outside of the legal framework," the statement reads.

It further states that the funds given by FIFA and AFC are audited every year. FAM stated that it will cooperate with the ongoing investigation. However, the association will be responding to any attempts to attack them in a personal manner.

"In the spirit of the sport, we will defend ourselves from any attacks that come from persons attempting to take benefit of the current situation to present us with unconfirmed, personal type attacks for personal benefit," they said.

The FAM statement further referred to a joint letter sent to them from FIFA and AFC which stated that while they believe law enforcement authorities have the right to enter and search FAM premises, such actions must be conducted within the law and for legitimate reasons.

The letter also said that FIFA and AFC will take action in the instance the independence of FAM's management is compromised or there are attempts to exert undue influence on them, the statement claims.
