Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has decided to appoint Judge Hussain Shaheed as Chief Judge of the High Court, and Judge Mariyam Waheed as the Chief Judge of Civil Court.

When the vacancies were announced, only Judge Shaheed applied for the post of High Court Chief Judge. In addition to Judge Mariyam Waheed, Judge Hafiza Abdul Sattar also applied for the post of Chief Judge at Civil Court.

The JSC announced in a statement that the decision had been reached on Wednesday's commission meeting.

Judge Shaheed was appointed to the High Court in 2018. Prior to this, he served in the Criminal Court, and earlier as a magistrate.

Judge Mariyam Waheed was appointed to the Civil Court in 2016. Earlier, she served as a magistrate. In 2017, Supreme Court issued an order removing her from her post as a Civil Court Judge in response to a verdict she had reached in a case she had presided over. However, Supreme Court rescinded the order and reinstated her in 2018.
