Promotions have been given to doctors who were adversely affected by the introduction of the new Civil Service job structure.
The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has stated in a circular released on Thursday that the National Pay Commission has directed doctors who have been transferred from Consultant rank to Senior Specialist Registrar rank once the Specialist Medical Practitioner structure came in to effect, should be promoted to Consultant rank effective from September 17, 2023.
The circular said that the commission is currently undertaking the task of transferring the rank of all those affected.
CSC Director General Khadheeja Jameela stated that once the new structure had come into effect, specialist doctors had gone down in rank and so had submitted a petition to the President's Office expressing their concerns on the matter.
Subsequently, the President's Office directed the Pay Commission to affect the necessary changes to rank.
Senior Specialist Consultant is public rank 8 in the new structure. Consultant is rank 9.
"Effectively, a promotion has been given through efforts to address their concerns," Khadheeja said.
A Senior Specialist Registrar earns MVR 29,275 as salary, and MVR 454 each day reported to work as attendance allowance.
A Consultant Specialist earns a salary of MVR 32,632. They also receive MVR 506 on every day they report for duty as attendance allowance.
