Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid expressed this decision via social media X, stating that the President's initiative involves donating two million units of tuna cans from the Maldives to assist the Palestinian people. Shahid emphasized that this gesture signifies the Maldives' solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
The Maldives has strongly condemned the attacks on Palestinians by Israel. Along with several other nations, Maldives has lobbied at the United Nations, which has now decided to hold a special session of the General Assembly to address the crisis.
Both Maldivian citizens and businesses have made substantial donations to support the Palestinian cause.
