Parliament sitting to discuss supplementary budget cancelled over lack of quorum

Today's parliament sitting has also been cancelled over lack of quorum. Parliament has been increasingly made to cancel meetings over quorum issues in the recent past.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Eva Abdulla decided today to cancel the session as the minimum required attendance of 22 members, as per majlis regulations, were not reached.

One of the key issues on today's agenda is the supplementary budget for the rest of the year proposed by the current government.

Ministry of Finance has proposed an addition of MVR 6.5 billion; MVR 3.1 billion of this is for recurrent expenses and MVR 3.3 billion for capital expenditure.

Other issues on agenda today include the debate on the amendment proposed by the ruling party on changing the composition of the Judicial Services Commission.
